On November 12, 2017, Kotzebue, Alaska experienced a strong storm with high winds and a sea level rise of over 6 feet, causing localized flooding. The airport road heading southwest out of town was flooded with approximately 3-4 feet of water, and there was minor flooding along Caribou Street leading to the hospital. The boat harbor was inundated, and several ground-level structures experienced some flooding. The winds were blowing from the west-northwest at 20-30 mph, with gusts up to 45 mph.
