6 reported missing in Haines after record rainfall causes flooding, landslides across Southeast Alaska

Six people are missing in Haines, Alaska after heavy rain triggered destructive avalanches, landslides, and flooding on Wednesday. Search and rescue efforts have been ongoing, and mountain rescue experts from Juneau will be flown to Haines on Thursday morning. The city declared a flooding emergency and warned residents to stay off the roads due to landslides and washed-out roads. The Haines Highway was closed, and the city's airport was partially flooded. The local ferry terminal and barge dock were also blocked by a landslide, separating the city's emergency diesel generator from its biggest fuel tanks. The damage is expected to take weeks or months to fully repair.
