Heavy rains in Yukon and northern B.C. cause mudslides, highway closures

Heavy rains in Yukon and northern British Columbia have caused mudslides and highway closures. The Alaska Highway north of Haines Junction was covered by a landslide on Monday, but has since been cleared. However, the Stewart-Cassiar Highway, also known as Highway 37, has been closed due to mudslides between Iskut and Meziadin Junction. Crews are working to clear the debris and repair culverts. The situation will be updated on the B.C. government highway conditions website, DriveBC. More than a dozen people are working on clearing the ditches in Yukon. The recent clear skies are a welcome respite from the rain of recent weeks.
