McCarthy Road reopened after being rocked by mudslide

The McCarthy Road in Alaska has reopened to two lanes of traffic after a mudslide at mile 58 caused it to be shut down. The slide was caused by rain and was described as large by the Alaska Department of Transportation. Maintenance crews worked through the night to clear one lane and the road was fully reopened this afternoon. However, operators are still working in the area and caution is recommended. Smaller slides and flooding are also affecting the Taylor Highway in the southeastern Interior, with crews responding to erosion at mile 84. Drivers are advised to wait until conditions improve before travelling the road.
