Thousands lose power from the Kenai Peninsula to the Mat-Su as winds ramp up

Strong winds and warm temperatures are expected to bring rain to Southcentral Alaska, causing some of the recent snowfall to melt. The Anchorage School District has canceled classes due to deteriorating road conditions, and meteorologists have warned of icy roads as temperatures drop again on Tuesday. High winds have caused power outages and avalanche danger, and the National Weather Service has issued alerts for gusts of up to 80 mph in some areas. The Matanuska-Susitna Borough is also expected to see similar weather conditions.
