2 rock slides close Seward Highway at miles 111 and 106.5

Two rock slides occurred on the Seward Highway in Alaska, one near mile 111 and the other near mile 106.5, due to heavy winds and rain. The falling rocks made it unsafe for workers to immediately remove the debris, and it is unclear when the road may be reopened. The highway was closed in both directions near mile 111, and crews headed towards the scene to clear the debris. No injuries or damage were reported. High winds hit the Turnagain Arm and Anchorage bowl, with 113 mph gusts reported early Monday along the Seward Highway. Flooding was also reported on the Sterling Highway near the Anchor River. Falling rocks were reported on Saturday between miles 104 and 114, although it did not close the highway.
