Falling ice traps driver, closes highway

A woman named Amanda Lawton was seriously injured after falling ice crushed her pickup truck on the Seward Highway just south of Anchorage, Alaska. Firefighters used extrication equipment to free her, and she was taken to a local hospital. The highway was closed between Mileposts 113 and 114, but one lane reopened for alternating traffic just before 6 p.m. Ice had fallen on the same section of highway earlier in the day, partially blocking one lane, but it was quickly cleared by a road crew.
