Anchorage and some Mat-Su schools shift to remote learning as rain coats roads in ice

In Anchorage and the Matanuska-Susitna (Mat-Su) region of Alaska, schools transitioned to remote learning due to hazardous road conditions caused by freezing rain. The weather caused several school buses to become stuck, and created dangerous travel conditions across the municipalities, prompting a winter weather advisory extension by the National Weather Service. The icy roads resulted in numerous vehicle distress calls and several accidents, including one fatal incident on Knik-Goose Bay Road. Anchorage's public transit suspended services temporarily due to the treacherous conditions. Authorities have advised caution as weather forecasts predict further precipitation.
