Snow buildup on Anchorage roads leaves drivers with fewer lanes and longer commutes

Anchorage residents are experiencing longer commutes and fewer lanes due to snow buildup on the roads. Many four-lane roads have been reduced to two, turn lanes have disappeared, and neighborhood roads have been squeezed to single lanes. Emergency vehicles are also being impacted by the road conditions. Road crews are still working to clear the streets and haul snow away after the city was hit with three major storms this month. Snow berms are also blocking many bus stops, making it difficult for elderly or handicapped passengers to access them. While some major roads have been cleared, the amount of snow and the speed at which it came has made snow removal a challenge.
