Nome, Alaska has experienced a three-day weather event that brought snow, wind, and rain, disrupting daily life. Alaska Airlines canceled flights between Anchorage and Nome, leaving Nome residents stranded. The mayor and city manager were among those stranded, causing the postponement of the Nome Common Council meeting and the cancellation of the Planning Commission meeting. The National Weather Service recorded 1.29 inches of precipitation, the highest three-day total on record for Nome in March in the past 116 years. Climate specialist Rick Thoman attributes this to climate change. Three separate storms were responsible for the weather event, bringing blizzard conditions, warm air, and more snow and rain.
