Back-to-back blizzards with high winds and tons of snow have hit Nome, Alaska since late January, resulting in a total of 76 inches of snow. The accumulation of snow has made commuting to work or school difficult for residents, and the city's public works crew has been working nonstop to clear city roads. The state Department of Transportation road crew has also been working tirelessly to keep roads open. The storms have also prevented scheduled service of freighters reaching Nome with groceries, causing restocking issues. Climate experts warn that the stormy pattern is a result of a warming climate and its impact on weather and the environment. However, there is hope for a pattern change in the second week of March.
