A group of eight vessels, including the Kumpula and Selenga, completed a historic passage on the Northern Sea Route, escorted by the icebreaker Vaigach. The Kumpula, an ice-class Arc4 carrier, was isolated for over a week north of the New Siberian Islands waiting for further icebreaking assistance before sailing independently into the ice-free Barents Sea on December 7. The Selenga is now moored in the Sever Bay in Taymyr, delivering construction goods to Rosneft's Vostok Oil project. The remaining vessels, including the Vladimir Rusanov, have not been mentioned in the article. The captain of the Vaigach, Mikhail Goncharenko, was praised for his successful management of the convoy.
