Russia's state nuclear energy corporation, Rosatom, has proposed the Northern Sea Route as a "viable alternative" to the Suez Canal after a cargo ship got stuck in the canal, blocking one of the world's key shipping routes. Rosatom highlighted the Northern Sea Route's advantages, including more space for ships to draw "peculiar pictures," icebreakers to break ice if ships get icebound, and real-time data on weather, currents, and ice motion for navigating the north. The proposal comes as fears of a rise in oil prices due to the Suez Canal blockage continue.
