Call for extra hands to clear Russian bridge, still shut after last week’s disastrous ice rain

The only link between Vladivostok and Russky island, the Russky Bridge, remains shut after last week's disastrous ice rain in the Primorye region of Russia. Over 100,000 people were left without electricity, heating, and water, and the region's transport system was paralysed. More than 20 industrial climbers and emergency workers are currently deployed to clear ice off the bridge, with many of them working for free. The Primorye region government has requested more help from climbers elsewhere in the Russian Far East to speed up the bridge opening. So far, 900 tonnes of ice has been removed from the bridge, with another thousand tonnes left to go.
