Homeless man freezes to death steps away from cathedral in Vladivostok’s ice rain aftermath

A 60-year-old homeless man was found dead in the yard of Pokrovsky Cathedral in Vladivostok, Russia, after being entombed in ice following an ice rain that caused a state of emergency in the region. The man, who was known to the cathedral's attendant, had no traces of violent death on his body. The region is still struggling with power outages and heating issues, with 94,000 people without electricity and 18,000 without heating. The transport system in the city and region collapsed, with roads blocked by fallen trees, and flights and trains delayed. The Russky Bridge, the only transport link connecting Vladivostok to Russky Island, had to be shut due to heavy icing on its cable stays. The government promised to organise a ferry service to deliver key provisions and transport people.
