Invasive Species in Alaska

Location: Alaska

Description: This project includes observations of organisms suspected to be non-native and potentially invasive. It includes animal, insect, bird, fish and invertebrate species from terrestrial, freshwater or marine environments. This project is a partnership between the Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADF&G), Alaska Department of Natural Resources and the UAF Cooperative Extension Service, LEO Network recommends using the ADFG mobile app and reporting system for posting observations. Background: Changes in endemic species populations, increased human travel, infrastructure, development, and climate change are just a few examples of causes for invasive species. According to Presidential Executive Order 13112, an "invasive species" is defined as a species: 1) that is nonnative to the ecosystem under consideration, and 2) whose introduction causes or is likely to cause economic or environmental harm or harm to human health.
