This project includes observations of invasive animal, insect, bird and fish species.
Location: Alaska
Description: This project includes observations of organisms suspected to be non-native and potentially invasive. It includes animal, insect, bird, fish and invertebrate species from terrestrial, freshwater or marine environments. This project is a partnership between the Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADF&G), Alaska Department of Natural Resources and the UAF Cooperative Extension Service, LEO Network recommends using the ADFG mobile app and reporting system for posting observations. You can find more information about the application and invasive species program at the ADF&G website.
Background: Changes in endemic species populations, increased human travel, infrastructure, development, and climate change are just a few examples of causes for invasive species. According to Presidential Executive Order 13112, an "invasive species" is defined as a species: 1) that is nonnative to the ecosystem under consideration, and 2) whose introduction causes or is likely to cause economic or environmental harm or harm to human health.
