Pollution Tracker, a core program of the Coastal Ocean Research Institute at Ocean Wise, provides a summary of contaminant levels in nearshore subtidal marine sediment and blue mussels at this Victoria Harbour location.
PollutionTracker was developed by the Coastal Ocean Research Institute at Ocean Wise and is the first coast-wide integrated marine pollution monitoring program in British Columbia. Sampling and analysis along the B.C. coast provides an overview of pollution and helps to guide best practices, management responses, and remediation. This coordinated initiative provides high quality, comparable, and accessible contaminant data in support of a healthy coastal environment.
Sediment - Nearshore ocean sediment was collected from 51 coastal B.C. locations. Contaminants measured in sediment from this site are ranked relative to levels measured at all other sites. A rank of 1 indicates the most contaminated site coast-wide. An overall average site ranking is also provided.
Mussels - Mussels were collected from 33 coastal B.C. locations. Contaminants measured in mussels from this site are ranked relative to levels measured at all other sites. A rank of 1 indicates the most contaminated site coast-wide. An overall average site ranking is also provided.
