Freezing Rain on Kenai Peninsula

The Kenai Peninsula in Alaska experienced freezing rain on December 30, 2016, due to moderate high winds from the south bringing above freezing temperatures and rain. Freezing rain is defined as rain that falls when surface temperatures are below freezing and is made entirely of liquid droplets. The conditions caused several vehicles to end up in ditches on Oilwell road.

Monica Zappa writes,

Moderate/high winds from the south brought our first above freezing temps and rain. Conditions icy and several vehicles in the ditch on Oilwell road tonight.

LEO says:

Freezing rain is the name given to rain that falls when surface temperatures are below freezing. Unlike a mixture of rain and snow, ice pellets (both of which are sometimes called "sleet"), or hail, freezing rain is made entirely of liquid droplets." Source: Wikipedia
