Fairbanks is riding a weather roller coaster, from freezing rain to snow and frigid cold

Fairbanks, Alaska is experiencing a weather roller coaster with freezing rain, snow, and frigid cold. The roads have been slick and difficult to navigate due to the wet snow and rain falling on cold pavement, creating an ice road with snow on top. Despite this, most state-maintained roads have been plowed. Power outages affected around 14,000 people on Sunday, but crews have been working to restore power, with extra utility crews brought in from Anchorage to help with repairs. However, some customers may still be without power for a prolonged period of time, especially with the snow and strong winds expected on Wednesday and Thursday. Fairbanks has received over 1000% of its normal month-to-date precipitation.
