Foreign Marine Debris Found in the Bering Sea

Kawerak, an Alaskan organization, has expressed concern over the increase in foreign debris on the coasts of the northern Bering Sea. The debris has been reported in at least four locations, and despite efforts to reach out to the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration and the U.S. Coast Guard, local residents have had to take it upon themselves to clean up the shores. Kawerak is urging the U.S. Coast Guard to investigate and take necessary action to enforce rules against dumping plastics into the ocean. The organization highlights the negative impacts of shipping and climate change on the environment and the people who depend on the sea for life.
