COVID-19 Has Worsened the Ocean Plastic Pollution Problem

The COVID-19 pandemic has worsened the ocean plastic pollution problem, according to the Ocean Plastics Leadership Network (OPLN), a community of 67 member organizations working together to find solutions to the crisis. The OPLN is committed to simplifying communications about the issue and accelerating solutions. The World Wildlife Fund's ReSource: Plastic initiative is encouraging top companies to share their plastic footprint publicly, including how much plastic they produce, where it goes, and what happens to it. Coca-Cola, Starbucks, McDonald's, Keurig Dr. Pepper, and P&G have already shared their data. The initiative aims to eliminate unnecessary products, prioritize investment in sustainable production, double the global recycling rate, and demand transparency from more companies. The OPLN believes that full transparency of the entire global supply chain will allow all stakeholders to put the pedal to the metal and save our oceans by 2030.
