This marks the first summer that the weather service in Alaska has issued heat advisories to share with residents what they can do to mitigate hot conditions. Climate scientists say those notices are likely to become common.

Here's the updated version through July 5th. Above 90F through the middle and upper Kobuk valley must be close to all-time records, though there is nothing beyond short, sporadic climate obs over the decades. FAA wx stations at Noatak, Ambler and Shungnak all offline during this event, which is a significant loss for documenting this heatwave.
