A new report on Atlantic salmon in the Tana (Deatnu) River system shows extremely low smolt survival on the migration to sea—only 8 of 196 tagged smolts were recorded reaching the ocean. Predation from birds, fish, and other predators is highlighted as a likely major cause of the early mortality.
