The Chilkat River king salmon run rebounded in 2025 to an estimated 3,821 large spawners, surpassing the state’s escapement goal after years under stock-of-concern status and reduced harvests. Biologists warn, however, that younger, smaller fish now dominate the run, potentially lowering productivity and increasing vulnerability.
