Flood has begun in the Skaftá River

Skaftárhreppur, Suðurland, Iceland

A minor glacial outburst flood (jökulhlaup) has begun in the Skaftá River in South Iceland. Discharge is about 250 m³/s, the water has turned gray and muddy with reports of sulfur odor; the flood crest was around midnight and source cauldron not yet confirmed.
