Yukon’s first recorded wildfire of 2026 was detected east of Aishihik Lake and is believed to be a holdover (“zombie”) fire from 2025. Yukon Wildfire is monitoring the one-hectare blaze, currently classified as being held, rather than actively suppressing it.

Fjarðabyggð Fire Department was called out twice on March 21, 2026 due to vegetation (grass) fires in the municipality of Fjarðabyggð, East Iceland.

Fire crews responded to a wind-driven grass (vegetation) fire burning on a hillside above Captains Bay Road in Unalaska, prompting a road closure and warnings for residents to avoid the area.

The fire had reached 90% containment by Thursday evening, according to the Alaska Division of Forestry.
