Juneau experienced record-high snowfall in December, with 82 inches, the most since the mid-1900s, defying global warming trends and recent winter patterns.

A total of 14.7 inches of snow fell between 8 p.m. Thursday and 8 p.m. Friday, barely eclipsing the previous record for the date of 14.6 inches, set in 1970.

A series of winter storms hit Nome with deep snow and high winds, causing school closures, flight cancellations, and significant snow removal challenges.

The wind storms have been rolling in off the North Pacific, one after another. It is the windest winter and conditions I can recall in my years in Anchorage.

Despite the fourth snowiest October on record, roughly half of precipitation in Anchorage has been rain this winter.
