And the Heat Goes On - The Finnish Meterological Institute defines a "hot day" as over 22 degrees C ( 77 degrees F). This summer the Sápmi region has had more hot days then ever. Just last week Oulu (65.0121° N) reached 25.3ºC. That's really hot for northern people and for plants and wildlife. Readers may recall an article from July about a 28 degree day in Rovaniemi when reindeer cooled down at the Ounaskoski beach! The fact is you could have gone anywhere this summer and experienced amazing conditions, the hottest in the Arctic in recorded history. People around the north felt the heat, coughed in the smoke, marveled at the vegetables in their gardens, and wondered at the amazing summer of 2019.
