Warmer Kodiak seasons mean more fruit

Warmer weather in Kodiak, Alaska has led to an increase in fruit production, with more apples and pears being grown in the area. Lon White, owner of Strawberry Fields Nursery, has seen an increase in demand for fruit trees, including cherries and plums, and is now selling pear trees. Good drainage, high quality soil, and lots of sun are vital to establishing fruit trees, according to White. The growing season for vegetables has just begun, with rhubarb being the first arrival, followed by lettuce, kale, and chard. Greenhouses are being used to grow kale, lettuce, cucumbers, zucchini, and tomato plants.
