Mat-Su flooding closes roads, threatens homes after deluge soaks Talkeetna Mountains

Heavy rainfall in the Talkeetna Mountains has caused flooding in multiple communities in Mat-Su, Alaska, closing roads and threatening homes. The Little Susitna River has flooded 20 properties in the Parks Highway city of Houston, with floodwaters limiting road access to around 40 homes. The Matanuska-Susitna Borough has announced six road closures and several road blocks. The mayor of Houston has issued an emergency declaration to request state assistance for significant repairs to flood-eroded roads. The National Weather Service has issued a flood advisory in place through Wednesday morning, with another half-inch to an inch of rain possible through Tuesday night.
