Officials in Ketchikan, Alaska urged residents to evacuate from areas around Ketchikan Creek on Saturday evening due to concerns over a potential failure of a nearby dam within hours. The evacuation was voluntary but recommended by officials, with first responders going door to door to notify residents. The Gateway Recreation Center was available to those unable to find shelter elsewhere, and a bus was available to take those unable to evacuate themselves to the center. As of December 6, officials have stated that the potential for dam failure has subsided and evacuees can return home, but a flood advisory is still in place with localized flooding possible along the creek.
