Heavy rain causes flash flooding, more rainfall expected

Heavy rainfall in early July has caused flash floods in several parts of Mongolia, affecting hundreds of households. Bayan-Ulgii, Selenge and Tuv aimag are among the worst affected areas. The National Agency of Meteorology and Environment Monitoring has issued warnings for herders, farmers, entities, organisations and citizens to be cautious and take action to prevent risks as more rainfall is expected. The flooding has caused an estimated MNT 10bn ($3.8m) in damage, four to five times more than the previous flood in 2016. International organisations such as the Red Cross, ADRA and the World Vision have started rendering aid to flood victims.
