High waves damage shoreline, road and community freezer in Grise Fiord

Grise Fiord, Nunavut, Canada was hit by unusually high waves early on Saturday morning, causing damage to the community's shoreline, part of a road and the community freezer. The full moon was blamed for the high tides, which were described as "an interesting spectacle, but dangerous" by resident Larry Audlaluk. The waves shifted the freezer from its foundation and caused damage to a section of the road, but the hamlet managed to use its loader to ensure the first half of the community's annual shipment of goods made it into town. Environment Canada recorded about 85 millimetres of rain in the hamlet between Friday and Sunday.
