The May-August period in Finland was the warmest on record, with temperatures approximately 2°C higher than usual, according to the Finnish Meteorological Institute (FMI). The summer was the hottest in the 174-year history of the weather station in Kaisaniemi, Helsinki, and the second hottest in the 118-year history of the weather station in Sodankylä, Lapland. The highest temperature of 33.7°C was recorded in Klemettilä, Vaasa, on 18 July. The FMI warned that such record-breaking weather events will become increasingly common and called for international collaboration to tackle climate change.
