Construction of the Dettah ice road, which connects Yellowknife to Dettah on the Yellowknife Bay in the Northwest Territories, has been delayed due to a warm November. The road, which is necessary to ensure goods and supplies are distributed across the territory, will open in January for the second year in a row. Workers have been testing the ice thickness in anticipation of construction, which is due to begin on Thursday. The road typically opens before Christmas, but its 15-year-average opening date is December 21.
