The Kuskokwim 300 Sled Dog Race in Alaska will run two laps to its halfway point and back for the first time due to warm weather and open water. The decision was made by the race committee on Sunday night, and while local mushers agree it is the safest way to run the race, they say it could present challenges. The race will not run through the Kalskag and Aniak checkpoints, and will start near H-Marker Lake. Passing teams head-on will also be a factor, particularly near Bogus, where there are some narrow spots.
