Plastic waste now polluting Arctic Ocean, scientists find

Scientists have found evidence of plastic waste in the Arctic Ocean, which they fear could have a damaging impact on wildlife. The Arctic was previously protected by a layer of sea ice, but this is melting, exposing the area to commercial fishing, shipping and industry. The scientists are investigating the impact of man-made noise pollution on marine life and mammals, which can be particularly sensitive to sound. The Arctic is believed to be a hotspot for microplastics accumulation, but there is little data on the subject.
