No Sea Ice

The community of Port Heiden, Alaska has only had sea ice once this year, which is unusual as it usually appears around November. The sea ice was only observed for one or two days before melting away. The lack of sea ice is concerning as it helps prevent coastal erosion problems.

We've only had sea ice once this year and was observed by the community for one or two days and then it all melted away. The sea ice usually shows up around November. We're concerned because the sea ice makes for a good sea break to help prevent coastal erosion problems. Posted by Moses Tcheripanoff for Linda Anderson
