Western Alaska braces for strong storm and possible floods

Western Alaska is preparing for a strong storm that could cause flooding and power outages. The coastal flood warning is in effect for the southern Seward Peninsula coast, including Nome, from Friday evening until Sunday morning. Damaging winds are possible, with widespread power outages expected in several communities. Meteorologist Ed Plumb said the storm is strong and on a "perfect track to bring significant severe coastal flooding to parts of Western Alaska." Beach and shoreline erosion is also possible. Officials are preparing emergency shelters and advising residents to secure their boats and property. The storm is expected to weaken as it moves further north into the Chukchi Sea on Sunday.
