Flooding in the British Columbia Interior has caused road closures, states of emergency, and evacuations. Highways 3A and 8 are closed due to flooding and a mudslide, while the northbound lane of Highway 97 was closed but has since reopened. The District of Summerland and Mill Creek area of Kelowna have declared states of emergency due to swelling rivers and creeks from early spring runoff. The Aeneas Creek has breached its banks, flooding properties in the Garnet Valley area, and authorities are concerned that the flood water may impact a larger area. The Central Okanagan Emergency Operations warns that peak runoff flows from higher elevation snow melt will occur within the next three weeks, and residents are asked to prepare for possible flooding. High streamflow advisories are in place for several regions of the province.
