Utqiagvik Smashes June Record High

Utqiagvik, Alaska, formerly known as Barrow, set an all-time June record high on June 20, reaching 73 degrees Fahrenheit. This year is on track to be the warmest on record in parts of Alaska, with sea ice coverage around Utqiagvik at record-low levels for June. The high temperature was 30 degrees above the average for the last day of spring and 2 degrees warmer than the high in Cleveland on the same day. Alaska is experiencing one of its warmest years on record, with the state having its record warmest spring and second warmest year-to-date through May.
