According to National Weather Service meteorological technician Bob TenEyck, the snowy winter in Nome, Alaska is actually a return to normal weather conditions based on the 110-year old weather data base. Although this winter has seen twice as much snowfall as last year, there have been no record-breaking temperatures or snowfall. As of Monday, there are 38 inches of snow on the ground and 70.8 inches of snowfall this winter. TenEyck notes that this winter has been particularly windy, but overall, it is the first normal winter in terms of snowfall in ten years.
