Whitehorse city workers pile snow high to keep roads clear after early winter storms

City workers in Whitehorse, Yukon, Canada have been working tirelessly to clear record amounts of snow from residential streets and roads. With over 600 lane kilometers of roadway to shovel, equipment operators have been plowing snow and dumping it into bucket trucks, which then haul it to cleared-out areas known as snow dumps. The city has brought in contractors with Cats and Snowcats to help pile the snow even higher to ensure there is enough room for the season. The largest snow dump is located near Robert Service Way and is up to 12 meters high in places. Snow removal eats up 10% of the city budget, with over $3 million put aside for the work every year.
