Heavy rain and wind take toll on Southcentral

Heavy rain and wind hit Southcentral Alaska on Saturday night, causing flooding in Girdwood, a landslide on the Sterling Highway, and power outages throughout the region. More than a foot of rain fell in Girdwood by Sunday, washing out two roadways and leaving some homes unreachable. The weather service issued a flood warning for Glacier Creek in Girdwood through Monday. The Sterling Highway was closed in both directions due to a landslide, and power outages affected thousands of homes. Southcentral Alaska is expected to experience more wet weather in the next few days, with potential for light snow in some areas.
