Fierce storm drops a foot of snow on Anchorage in 24 hours

Anchorage, Alaska experienced a fierce storm that dropped a foot of snow in 24 hours, causing the collapse of a sports dome. Moose Pass, a small community 30 miles north of Seward, received the most snow with 32 inches, while Seward got about 30 inches during the same period. Areas north of Anchorage received less snowfall, with just 6 inches recorded for Eagle River. The Chugach National Forest Avalanche Center in Girdwood issued a bulletin warning of dangerous avalanche conditions on Kenai Peninsula mountains due to the 2-5 feet of snow that has rapidly loaded mountain slopes.
