Port Heiden loses road access to safe harbor and old village

Port Heiden, Alaska is losing access to its safe harbor and old village due to erosion. The road leading to the harbor and village has been closed due to the erosion, which has caused the shoreline to recede by an average of 30 feet this year. The road is crumbling into the sea and Goldfish Lake is expected to breach soon. This will cause a large river to form and will make it difficult for the village to launch boats. The village hopes to turn the lake into a safe harbor and to remove the remaining buildings in the old village.
