Vancouver Island marmot facing a new threat: creeping treeline

The Vancouver Island marmot is facing a new threat due to climate change: the "creeping treeline" is forcing the marmots out of their alpine meadows. Scientists from the Royal B.C. Museum are studying the disappearance of alpine meadows on Vancouver Island, and are attempting to establish new colonies in Strathcona Park. They are also removing small trees from marmot meadows and studying the mountain tree line in the Yukon and B.C. to better understand the effects of climate change on the marmots.
