Marine researchers have placed rows of wooden “recruitment boxes” in Casco Bay mudflats to measure how many juvenile soft-shell clams settle and survive when protected from predators. The monitoring helps document the long-term collapse of Maine’s soft-shell clam fishery and the role of invasive green crabs and warming waters.
