In Øksfjord in northern Norway, divers and researchers restored parts of a kelp forest by systematically crushing sea urchins that had overgrazed the seabed into a “stone desert.” The project highlights how loss of predators like cod and wolffish helped sea urchins take over and how kelp can recover when grazing pressure is reduced.
