This past winter/spring has been incredibly wet here - I wonder if that has something to do with the emergence of this slime mold.
Observation by Mike Brook:
I've been seeing this strange slime mold in the forest this spring. it is not common, but I've certain seen it dozens of times. I don't recall ever seeing it before in the Truckee area. This past winter/spring has been incredibly wet here - I wonder if that has something to do with the emergence of this slime mold.
LEO Network says:
Dog vomit slim mold is a likely suspect. Those sound like the right (wet) conditions for slime molds to thrive. You can learn more at the I-Naturalist link. Comment by Gino Graziano:
That sounds likely to me especially with the wet conditions and all the snow they had this last season. I don't know my slime molds well, and it doesn't immediately look like the ones in my guide. iNaturalist is really good at providing reasonable identifications.
